Mozilla Thunderbird, an e-mail client

Thunderbird is a popular opensource desktop application used as e-mail client owned by Mozilla (owners of the famous web browser - Mozilla Firefox). Infact, I love Firefox browser and Thunderbird too which are my default web browser and default e-mail client. Thunderbird runs very stable, lightweight and yet free to use. Thanks to Mozilla. I would like to review its features briefly to consider why its different from other e-mail clients available in the market.

Key Features:

  1. Thunderbird is a full-featured email application with powerful and customizable options and yet easy & simple to use.
  2. Retrieves emails using IMAP and POP mail protocols from Mail Servers via internet.
  3. Allows to send e-mails with HTML formatting.
  4. Built-in RSS to retrieve feeds from your favorite websites (ex: http://feeds.thefinalguide.com/thefinalguide).
  5. Quick search, Spell checker (immediately suggests corrects words upon typing wrong spellings).
  6. Spam filter or Junk Mail filter allows to filter junk mails and it’ll be improved to filter whenever mails are marked spam.
  7. You can find advanced security features in Thunderbird like Message encryption, Digital Signing, Support for digital certificates etc. Even though mail attachments contain exe files (which can autorun) will be prevented from execution without your permission.
  8. Ability to customize toolbars
  9. Automatically downloads updated security features
  10. Anti-Phishing feature to protect from e-mail scams.

  • Each mail account can be opened in a new tab (right click on a mail account and choose Open in New Tab)

Even though Linux got its own advantages, we here Microsoft Windows from our friends mostly while they suffer from Virus attacks, systems hanging for long time and PC restarts most of the time.
